Yulara

4.5
Nature & Wildlife Tours · Natural History Museums · Wildlife Areas
Yulara takes its name from the local Aboriginal words for "howling" and "dingoes," which conveys the town's isolated location in the Outback. In fact, the Yulara owes its existence to nearby Uluru (Ayer's Rock). Concerned about the detrimental effects of informal construction of motels around Uluru, the Australian government proclaimed the town of Yulara in 1976 as an accommodation center 11 mi (18 km) by road from the sight. Today, the town offers a range of busy hotels and campgrounds. A shuttle bus offers transportation around Yulara, and you can dine in restaurants or purchase groceries from the local supermarket. In addition to accessing Uluru, you can arrange activities such as helicopter tours, camel rides, and star-gazing walks while in Yulara. Use our Australia trip itinerary maker tool to arrange your visit to Yulara and other destinations in Australia.
