Scienceworks
Housing important cultural and scientific collections of the State of Victoria, Scienceworks is a world-renowned science museum located in the suburb of Spotswood. Established in 1992, the museum is housed in a large building near the historic Spotswood Pumping Station, the steam engines of which form an associated exhibit. Other displays and exhibits include hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and educational tours, including a stop at the planetarium, especially popular with kids. Make sure to visit the museum's "lightning room," a 120-seat auditorium presenting demonstrations about electricity and featuring a giant Tesla Coil, an instrument capable of producing spectacular lightning bolts. Excellent hands on experience for all of the family. There is even a sports section for a friendly rivalry between siblings to be sorted out!

We took kids aged 5, 7, 9, 12, 14 and they all had a great time. Didn't expect to stay as long as we did as they were having so much fun! Highly recommend for value for money and a great school holidays program. We also booked the Tycho goes to Mars show in the planetarium, the younger ones loved it! Definitely recommend booking in advance.

The kids love this place. This time we did the lightning display also and the new Tycho goes to Mars show which they both loved. Museum could be improved by having some rotation of their 'standard' displays - not an issue if you are only visiting once or twice, but for annual pass holders like ourselves it becomes noticeable.
