Explore the coral gardens on a full-day snorkeling trip to Opal Reef. This jewel of the Great Barrier Reef sits right in the Coral Sea, some 48 km (30 mi) off the coast of Australia. Its crescent shape provides protection from winds. Keep an eye open for stingrays half-buried in the sand and the perfectly camouflaged lizardfish that sits on the corals waiting for its pray. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Port Douglas holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Opal Reef and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • We came here with Wavelength. They reef was very colourful with both plenty of fish and coral. We saw huge clams and a pod of squid. Worth the trip.

  • Visited Opal Reef through a tour by Wavelength6 on July 9, 2022 and visited 3 sites. Saw a turtle and stingray swim past. Very delighted with the tour and what we got to see at the reef.
