A visit to Green Island will bring you to the tropical paradise on the Great Barrier Reef. Just 27 km (17 mi) offshore from Cairns, this small, sandy island formed on the surface of a coral reef. Snorkel and dive in the cool waters over colorful coral and sealife. Go on a glass-bottom boat or semisubmerged submarine to see the underwater views of starfish, turtles, shells, and fish. Follow the boardwalk through the thick, emerald rainforest to reach the crocodile farm. Rent a locker for your belongings at the island, so that you can explore the place without worry. Take a look at our Cairns trip itinerary planner to schedule your visit to Green Island and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

Green island is really nice. It’s a great place to visit if you want a beach day out with the family. It’s got a lot going for it with some lovely inner greenery, a perfect place to go wander around. A pool side bar where you can spend time if the beach gets to much. Plus a gorgeous surrounding beach front where you can snorkel the day away. It takes about thirty minutes to walk a lap of the island, not long at all but everything is very lush and green under the trees, with plenty of wildlife to enjoy. You can make a stop at the bar and small food stall in the centre of the island after your walk even. If you do want to check out the beach which surrounds the island you can snorkel off the shore and see plenty of fish and small spots of coral. Problem is it’s so tourist driven that the reef is quite dull and damaged from the amount of people going out there daily. There’s also scuba diving off the island and you can head off, out a little further to see the more lively coral reefs. So very much worth it to see some more untouched areas a little further off the shore line. All in all it’s a huge day out for the family and it is a long one so bring along, snacks or anything you want to eat because it can get expensive if you do buy food and drinks on the island.

It’s an island.. nothing much there.. there is a small crocodile farm there and has a few food outlets. The beaches are nice and a small walking path to the end of the island. Apparently there is a hotel that you can stay. We only visited on the way to Great Barrier Reef.
