National Gallery houses one of the world's best collections of western European art. You can find larger collections at other galleries, but the roughly 2,300 paintings here comprehensively cover major art movements from the 13th to the 19th centuries. You'll encounter numerous important works, such as Hans Holbein's The Ambassadors, Van Gogh's Sunflowers, and Constable's The Haywain. Take a floor plan as soon as you enter the gallery, and consider picking up a free audio guide that explains the significance of the works you'll see. A handful of different themes are available, including the Collection Tour, which provides commentary on more than 1,000 works, and a 60-minute tour of the highlights. The British public owns the art in the permanent exhibit, so admission is free. Temporary exhibits, however, have fees. The gallery also offers three venues for food and drink. In addition to being excellently located in Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery is undoubtedly a must-see within the many that this amazing city has. Free admission, great service, little line to enter (at least in July 2019), although the restaurant could be much better as it was a bit expensive and had few options, however the view to Trafalgar Square is great. Not to mention the amazing collection. We arrived at the time they opened, we had lunch there and we stayed for a while in the afternoon, only watching the "masterpieces" that give you in a brochure at the beginning of the tour. The audio guide was excellent.View original -

The collection, it goes without saying, is world-class. It was extremely busy when I visited on a weekday, so I came back on Friday night at the suggestion of one of the staff members, and the galleries were much less crowded. If you're looking to sit and sketch, Friday nights are your best bet! I really loved the selection of impressionist works and the Rembrandt room. The Espresso Bar was a relaxing and clean, if not particularly ambient, spot to enjoy a tasty latte.

Just awesome...both the building and it's contents. I could spend hours and hours just gazing at the exquisite works of art. I would highly recommend a visit here, even if you are not really into art. You can't fail but be mesmerized by the incredible talent on display at every turn . Fabulous.
