National Museum of Scotland combines one museum on Scottish antiquities, culture, and history and another on technology, natural history, and world cultures to create one of Britain's best facilities for learning and discovery. The overall collection is vast, so look at a map before visiting and choose the galleries you most want to see. A few of the many highlights include a Tyrannosaurus rex fossil, a mummy mask, and numerous objects that once belonged to Mary, Queen of Scots. Entrance to the museum is free, and you can check items in the cloakroom for a small fee. Check the daily schedule of free themed tours before visiting to see if any interest you. The Museum Brasserie and the Balcony Cafe both serve food and drink. Before you visit Edinburgh, use our trip planner to discover what you can do and see there.

We spent hours here, delving through the beautiful history of Scotland and it's people. We started at the top floor and slowly worked our way down. Every floor was worthwhile, the displays and exhibits were very well done. They were very informative and visually appealing. We spent three weeks in Europe and this was one of our favorite museums by far.
The best museum in Edinburgh, so much to learn. New displays are added and always some exhibition is present. There are kids activities during festivals and holidays. My son lives visiting museum and playing with the interactive displays. Equally enjoyable for whole family. Good facilities like baby rooms, family picnic area, toilets, cafe etc. A complete visit can take whole day,so plan to split to multiple visits to see everything in detail.
