Tain is a royal burgh and parish in the County of Ross, in the Highlands of Scotland.EtymologyThe name derives from the nearby River Tain, the name of which comes from an Indo-European root meaning 'flow'. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Tain: Corrieshalloch Gorge (in Ullapool), Glen Ord Distillery Visitor Centre & Whisky Shop (in Muir of Ord) and Durness Beach (in Durness). There's lots more to do: sample the fine beverages at Glenmorangie Distillery, see the interesting displays at Tain Museum, enjoy the sand and surf at Dornoch Beach, and admire the natural beauty at Dunrobin Castle and Gardens.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major airports are Aberdeen Dyce Airport, Edinburgh Airport and Glasgow International Airport. In July, daytime highs in Tain are 64°F, while nighttime lows are 50°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel back home.
