Melbourne to Devonport is an approximately 3-hour flight. You can also ride a ferry. Prepare for a bit cooler weather when traveling from Melbourne in December: high temperatures in Devonport hover around 25°C and lows are around 10°C. You'll have a few hours on the 2nd (Wed) to wrap things up before traveling to Hobart.

Getting from Devonport to Hobart by car takes about 3.5 hours. Other options: take a bus; or fly. In December, plan for daily highs up to 24°C, and evening lows to 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Fri) to allow time to drive to Launceston.

Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Start off your visit on the 5th (Sat): steep yourself in history at Woolmers Estate, then walk around City Park, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Cataract Gorge Reserve.

Burnie is a port city on the north-west coast of Tasmania. Start off your visit on the 6th (Sun): admire the natural beauty at Emu Valley Rhododendron Garden, stroll around Penguin Foreshore, then identify plant and animal life at Penguin Observation Centre, and finally have fun at Burnie Park.
