Cairns

The Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Cairns: Port Douglas (Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas, Agincourt Reef, &more), Wangetti (Hartley's Crocodile Adventures & Rex Lookout) and Etty Bay (in Innisfail). Spend the 13th (Sat) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. Spend the 26th (Fri) exploring nature at Daintree National Park. And it doesn't end there: relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, browse the exhibits of Historic Village Herberton, trek along The Blue Arrow Circuit, and identify plant and animal life at Mossman Gorge Centre.
