Little more than a small town at the turn of the 20th century, Dushanbe grew rapidly during the Soviet era and now serves as the national capital and home to nearly 800,000 people.
Explore hidden gems such as Hisor Fortress and Nurek Dam. Haji Yaqub Mosque and Hisor HIstorical and Cultural Preserve are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Dushanbe: Ski Tourism Complex Safed Dara (in Tagob) and Fann Mountains (in Ayni). There's still lots to do: get engrossed in the history at National Museum of Antiquities, don't miss a visit to National Library, view the masterpieces at NOOR ART GALLERY, and head outdoors with Varzob gorge.
