Founded in the 10th century as a Viking fishing village, Copenhagen has morphed into the cultural, political, and economic powerhouse of the country.Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Torvehallerne and Amager Strandpark. Head to Emils Chokolade and Mosehusetfor plenty of shopping. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Copenhagen: Fredensborg Palace (in Fredensborg), The Karen Blixen Museum (in Rungsted) and M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark (in Helsingoer). There's still lots to do: look for gifts at Crime Passionnel, admire the striking features of Copenhagen Stock Exchange, browse the different shops at Rodovre Centrum, and stroll through Kongens Have.
