The main tourist town in the Bay of Islands area, Paihia gives visitors a good range of accommodations, a convenient town center, long sandy beaches, and interesting architecture.
Pompallier Mission and Printery and Akeake Historic Reserve Track will appeal to history buffs. Visiting Paihia Harbour and Nature & Wildlife Tours will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Paihia side-trips: Russell (Flagstaff Hill Historic Reserve & Tapeka Point Track). Whitianga is a town on the Coromandel Peninsula, in the Waikato Region of New Zealand's North Island. Take a break from the city and head to Whangamata Beach and Hot Water Beach. Get some cultural insight at Mahamudra Centre for Universal Unity and The Little Gallery.
