Set against the stark but scenic coastline of the Bass Strait--the body of water separating Victoria and Tasmania--Torquay is a prime location for surfing and beach life in general.
Get some cultural insight at Steampacket Gardens and National Wool Museum. Get outdoors at The Great Ocean Road and Jirrahlinga Koala & Wildlife Sanctuary. When in Torquay, make a side trip to see Eastern Beach Reserve in Geelong, approximately Geelong away. And it doesn't end there: stroll through Bells Beach, relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Anglican Church, Barwon Heads.

Traveling by car from Melbourne to Torquay takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. In January in Torquay, expect temperatures between 30°C during the day and 16°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Anglesea.
