A holiday in Port Douglas balances an activity-filled getaway with plenty of opportunities to relax, thanks to its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and bustling beach life.
Get in touch with nature at Scuba & Snorkeling and Opal Reef. Go for a jaunt from Port Douglas to Thornton Beach to see Thornton Beach about 1h 20 min away. There's much more to do: see exotic creatures in open habitats at a safari tour, explore and take pictures at Hartley's Crocodile Adventures, get outside with Horses in Port, and look for all kinds of wild species at Mossman Gorge Centre.

Expect a bit warmer temperatures when traveling from Sydney in March; daily highs in Port Douglas reach 36°C and lows reach 27°C. Cairns

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Start off your visit on the 29th (Sun): hike along Esplanade Boardwalk and then identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas. On the 30th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: view the masterpieces at Village Gallery, then enjoy the sand and surf at Palm Cove Beach, and then surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour.

Take a bus from Port Douglas to Cairns in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a shuttle. Expect a daytime high around 36°C in March, and nighttime lows around 27°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 31st (Tue) to allow enough time to travel back home.
