You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Get outdoors at Roman Beach and Koros Torok Sandy Beach. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Andrassy Avenue and Central Market Hall. Next up on the itinerary: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Matthias Church, get a sense of history and politics at Hungarian Parliament Building, pause for some photo ops at Shoes on the Danube, and make a trip to Hősök tere.

Istanbul, Turkey to Budapest is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 2 hours traveling from Istanbul to Budapest. Traveling from Istanbul in September, expect much colder with lows of 13°C in Budapest. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Wed) so you can catch the train to Vienna.

The cultural, economic, and political center of the country, Vienna has developed from its early Celtic and Roman roots into a medieval and Baroque city, with an old town that was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.
Schonbrunn Palace and Chapel of St. Virgil will appeal to history buffs. Belvedere Palace and Dorotheum will appeal to museum buffs. There's still lots to do: examine the collection at Imperial Palace (Hofburg), wander the streets of Mariahilfer Strasse, browse the eclectic array of goods at Vienna Naschmarkt, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Traveling by train from Budapest to Vienna takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In September in Vienna, expect temperatures between 24°C during the day and 13°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Sat) early enough to travel to Prague.
