The capital of French Polynesia, Pape'ete amounts to little more than a medium-sized town by Western standards, but it is still a thriving hub of culture and commerce.
Kick off your visit on the 9th (Fri): kick back and relax at Taharuu Beach, get engrossed in the history at Museum of Tahiti and the Islands, then view the masterpieces at Manua Exquisite Tahitian Art, and finally look for gifts at Papeete Roulottes. On your second day here, visit a coastal fixture at Pointe Venus, get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, and then examine the collection at Musee de la perle et Bijouterie.
