Little more than a small town at the turn of the 20th century, Dushanbe grew rapidly during the Soviet era and now serves as the national capital and home to nearly 800,000 people.
Get out of town with these interesting Dushanbe side-trips: Ski Tourism Complex Safed Dara (in Tagob), Nurek Dam (in Nurek) and Hisor (Hisor HIstorical and Cultural Preserve & Hisor Fortress). And it doesn't end there: walk around Rudaki Park, make a trip to Flagpole with the Flag of Tajikistan, appreciate the history behind Statue of Ismoil Somoni, and contemplate the waterfront views at Iskanderkul Lake.

For photos, more things to do, traveler tips, and other tourist information, you can read our Dushanbe itinerary maker site .

If you are flying in from Canada, the closest major airport is Qurghonteppa International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 13°C in December, and nighttime lows around 0°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Mon) so you can travel back home.
