Valentina Tereshkova Planetarium, Yaroslavl

#1 of 6 in Childrens Museums in Yaroslavl Oblast
Learn more about astronomy and the history of Russian space travel at Valentina Tereshkova Planetarium, dedicated to Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space. Built on the grounds of a former monastery, the planetarium is known for its unusual architecture, featuring a white concrete and glass exterior and an inner dome illuminated by thousands of LED lights in a range of colors, making the building look like a sphere floating in space at night. Climb the observatory tower, which resembles the bell tower of an old Russian cathedral, and attend one of the shows that explain the stars in the sky and the changes that occur each season. One show deals with astronomy in Russian folklore; check the schedule online prior to your visit. The museum models and exhibitions have partial English captions, but tend to be interactive and easily understood despite the limited English information. You can get a meal at the cafe inside the planetarium. Start your trip to Yaroslavl by creating a personalized itinerary on Inspirock.

  • At the end of September a Polish group of children came to our gymnasium. On Sunday evening we planned a visit to the Space Museum. The museum is not large in area, but a lot of interesting exhibits. Especially the guys were interested in the models of the launcher and the ISS. It's nice to have a photo area. We did not really understand why there are exhibits with the image of gomenidos and the origin of man. Our guests spoke English well and barely spoke Russian. I'm very re-going...

  • I went with my daughter, I wanted to visit the planetarium. We arrived by 2 p.m. The film about the stars at 15-00. They wanted to buy tickets, there was a delay, because the lecturer came from Moscow. We agreed to wait and were nicely offered as compensation by visiting the b/p museum and listening to a lecture! Everything was very cool! Lovely friendly staff, loving their job and at the end of a wonderful movie about the stars. The ticket costs 200 rubles, the museum 100. And the planetarium runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
