Impressive carvings and elaborate tiled decoration help to define Bou Inania Medersa, the only madrasa in the city that features a minaret. Founded in the mid-14th century, this prime example of Marinid architecture was designed both as a theological college and a congregational mosque. The recently renovated structure features elaborate zellij and carved plaster, cedar lattice screens, and huge brass doors. The site draws visitors to see its Islamic geometric patterns on plaster, wood and tiles; its rectangular green-tiled minaret; and its onyx marble columns supporting the an ornate mihrab ceiling. The madrasa is accessible for non-Islamic visitors and is considered a landmark structure in the quarter. • This 14th-century university college has a fine, elegant decoration that covers every courtyard (ceiling, floor and wall) and combines three basic materials - cedar wood, stucco and mosaic. All this creates a harmonious whole. The first floor is surrounded by modest student cells. The roof overlooks the city.
  • Stupidly closed for two years when we arrived. Ridiculous. One of the main sites of the town..... and it's completely closed.... for two years. Comical. Probably to rob even more from the tourists.
