Visit Pinang Peranakan Mansion, a cultural center providing a valuable introduction to the Peranakans, a community of wealthy Chinese traders that made this area of the world their home. Set in a restored mansion, the museum's interiors and architecture display the singular style and aesthetics of the community, blending traditionally Chinese aspects with local Malay and, later, colonial British influences. With a wealth of artifacts laid out in authentically arranged rooms, the museum transports you back to the time period with immersive exhibits, information panels, and guided tours. You will visit a large mansion full of luxury, crafts and city history. Infinitely more interesting than Blue Mansion, I would recommend making this visit only if you don't have much time in the city.
It’s like walking back in time, experiencing how the rich babas and nyonyas loved their lives. Free tour included so it’s very informative. Must visit if you are in Penang! more »
WORTH IT! Expected nothing more than an ordinary sightseeing tourist spot but once we arrived, we were happy that there was a tour(including entrance fee: RM20 for Malaysians) to have a look around the mansion. It got better as the tour was very entertaining. Our group tour guide (Ricky) was very clear, informative and funny. Kudos to Ricky for letting us have a pleasant and entertaining experience!
Upon entry we were given an English speaking guide who took us to many of the rooms, showing us interesting pieces and answering all of our questions. Really interesting and ornate mansion. Tour lasted 30-45 min before we were left to visit the mansion on our own to take pictures (not all rooms were covered on our tour). Be prepared to take off your shoes before going to the 2nd floor. There are stairs - I don’t believe this would be friendly to those with mobility issues.
