White colonnades and gold lattice balusters give a nod to the British Colonial era and the wealthy merchants who inhabited the former family home that now houses Colonial Penang Museum. The house is intricate and elaborate, with large stained-glass windows, gold sculptures, and marble statues throughout. The museum preserves the lifestyle of the house's former tenants with antiques and handwritten accounts plus furniture, paintings, and personal effects. Visitors can tour the house with the help of a knowledgeable guide; tours are included in the cost of admission. This museum definitely comprises one of the finest private collections of historic artifacts. It also contains a significant piece of Penang's history. Entry prices are reasonable at RM30 per person & RM20 for students, considering the amount of history on display, literally. The tour guide ( unfortunately, I didn't manage to catch the name of the man ) was extremely friendly, very charismatic and responsive to questions. Highly recommended for visits for tourists & locals alike.
A must see in Penang. Actually, I would say that if you want to better understand this island, you should start with this museum. The guides are very nice and friendly, and in the 30 RM price is included the guided tour. Highly recommended.
