Chateau de Vianden, Vianden

Transport yourself centuries back in time at Chateau de Vianden, a medieval fortress and palace dating back to the 14th century. Before you enter, notice the guard towers--one white and one black--flanking the main structure. Walk through a total of five gates, including a drawbridge and a descending grid. Afterward, you'll come to the little palace, where you can see the armory and Byzantine hall with its beautiful trefoil windows. Next, find the great palace, the largest section of the castle, featuring a knights' hall. Perhaps the most significant section, however, is the Romanesque-style chapel, which boasts two floors with an opening in the middle and balconies for the nobles. • Epic grand castle and among the greatest of Europe! Includes a museum, cafe and a healthy amount of interaction. A "treasure hunt" map for all the kids would be a nice simple addition if implemented, especially during festivities. For those with access/mobility requirements you are best to loiter around lower courtyard for indoor cafe museum, though will likely be restricted to just that due to steps and inclines ands traditional castle pathways.
  • Visit this place is like a time travel. The first register is from year 400. It was a Roman castle. After that, it was growing and was rebuilt other times. I suggest to use the audioguide in order to have better experience. Believe: the best pictures are taken from outside.
