St. Anne's Church, Vilnius

4.7
An ornate example of Gothic architecture within the historical city center, St. Anne's Church and its red brick spires represent one of Vilnius' most recognizable buildings. Originally constructed in 1500, the church survived multiple wars, conflicts, and 50 years of Soviet rule. Legend has it that the invading Napoleon found it so beautiful that he wished to send it brick-by-brick back to Paris for his own. Despite the outside, its interior is Baroque: keep an eye out for the ornate altar and carved wooden statues. Take in the sizeable stained-glass windows, high vaulted ceilings, and incorporation of the church's signature bricks into the arches themselves. • Exterior of the church really fairytale and very particular in that it is entirely made of brick. The interior, on the other hand, has nothing really extraordinary, although it is still beautiful. Don't miss it.

  • Every time we passed this church we took pictures of it:) Despite the fact that my wife does not like bricks, and I do not like Gothic, the church we really liked, it is not as heavy and crushing as the usual Gothic cathedral, you can see the Bernardines that are behind it affect:) You can and should go inside.

  • Amazing architecture. Inside is not so very special, but the chandelier.. really nice. Of course church is not about outer beauty, but visit this gothic marvelous masterpiece which is in the city center was blasting.
  • The churches in Vilnius are many and they have pretty interior however the tranquility is taken by an overabundance of tourists and no enforced door policy.
