Grutas Park, Druskininkai

At Grutas Park, walk through a recreated Soviet prison camp and view Communist-era statues and relics to learn more about this period in Lithuania's past. The park got its start after the country gained its independence in 1990, when many Soviet statues were removed and dumped in various places. The founder aimed to bring these statues together in one place, and founded an attraction revolving around this history that still remains controversial today. The 86 statues are organized into groupings, such as the Totalitarian Sphere and the Terror Sphere, featuring major Communist leaders from Lithuania and other countries. Notice the barbed wire, guard towers, and the train car used to transport people to Gulags. You can take a tour to receive more in-depth information on each statue and exhibit. There is also a mini zoo located on the property and a cafe that serves Soviet food. For Grutas Park and beyond, use our Druskininkai trip planner to get the most from your Druskininkai vacation.

  • Maybe someone is interested in it, but I think for the residents of the CIS it is like a slap in the way. The era of the USSR is so hyperbolized, and not a word about the good. Just negativity. If a European visits this place, he will be shot in the ears, that in the USSR all just in formation went under the towers of the clock and sang songs about communism. I don't know what was going on in the Lithuanian SSR at the time, but Far from the idea that everything was so bad. Horror, not the park. Just spitting in the direction of the Russian world as a whole. I strongly recommend residents of Belarus and Russia.

  • Visited this great park in summer 2018. Excellent collection of soviet statues in a well designed park, and many interesting exhibits in the buildings, with some great soviet memorabilia. A difficult history for many Lithuanians but I’m glad they preserved some of it.
  • A huge place and not the one to be rushed. Spent a whole day just slowly walking around, the nature is beautiful, lots of interesting pieces of history to check out, absolutely loved it.
