Wakayama Castle, Wakayama

#1 of 173 in Things to do in Wakayama
Castle · Historic Site
Marvel at the varied and interesting history of Wakayama Castle, a landmark central to the town's cultural lineage. Built in 1586 as the castle of a feudal lord, the building was heavily contested during the reconstruction of Japan, changing hands and uses regularly. The castle's current appearance--a chalky white exterior with three stories towering above the center of the city--owes much to renovations during the 17th century. Observe the cityscape below from this mountaintop seat of history and power, admiring the top-down view that so many rulers have cherished throughout the castle's complicated history. • Beautiful castle on the top of a little mountain, you must to climb through a nice comfortable and not high pathway to reach the top. You must to pay an ammount to enter the Castle and can see antique weapons and samurai suits, has 3 or 4 levels, but you must to walk carefully inside because the floor is very slippery. The view through the windows are awseome and you can see almost all the Wakayama City. Is a Beautiful place, i recommend it.
  • Quaint castle for a quaint town. Ticket price was 420yen (Feb 2019), to visit a mini museum, look out at town view from highest tower. Surrounding area (free admission) has some generic sceneries to look at, nothing special. If weather is good, could make a good outing.
