Byodoin Omote-sando, Uji

#2 of 63 in Things to do in Uji
Historic Walking Area · Tourist Spot
In the green tea capital of the country, you'll find Byodoin Omote-sando, a historic stone paved street by the river brimming with tea shops and eateries. The city has been heavily associated with quality tea production for hundreds of years, with many opportunities to sample the fabled produce along the roa. Tea shops roast their leaves facing onto the street, so all you need do is follow your nose. Other shops sell tea-related items, and if you're hungry, search among the eateries for a shop selling green tea-infused soba. Check out the desert and confectionery shops selling refreshing "matcha" ice cream, made from a powdered form of the tea. • Byodoin Omotesando at Uji was famous for green tea. There were many tea houses along the street and visitors would not miss their chance to have tea tasting and matcha ice-cream experience there...  more »
  • Love the matcha things here! The matcha soft cream was so good - bitter yet sweet. We enjoyed matcha parfait and matcha tea here
  • It is a road heading to the Byodoin temple which is called road of grean tea. There are a plenty of greantea shops from leafs to food. You will enjoy the smell all day long. We went there in the afternoon during the weekday. A few people were on the street, and no queue was required for the famous Nakamura tea shop. If you have spare time, a path walking along the river is worth trying. It is calm, beautiful and relaxable. Also, on another side of the long bridge close to the Keihan train station, there is a famous macha ice cream. I recomnended you to try a macha ice cream from the shop closest to the bridge as shown in one of my images.
