Tourists easily identify Tsutenkaku in the Osaka skyline, as the octagonal metal structure gleams by day and shines with colorful LED lights at night. The structure, completed in its current form in 1956, rises to an imposing 103 m (338 ft) and hosts a viewing platform at 91 m (298.5 ft). The LED lights, which illuminate the tower, change color every couple of months, usually to honor a particular season or event. Check out the advertisements from Hitachi, the structure's main sponsor since 1957, displayed with the tower's lights. Tsutenkaku was an old district but it was lively with hostels around the area. There were a few old shops, restaurants and cafes. There was also a big Donki Shop nearby. Worth the visit. more »

The tower is in an interesting area that looks as if it has been frozen in the 60s/70s. Venture to the basement of the tower to explore a mind-blowing range of Japanese snacks. These include special Osaka editions and special editions where they scale up the snack! It’s quite fun to shop here. Only a few minutes walk from the subway, it’s worth a visit for a few hours.

It was so interesting that a line to the viewpoint is in the souvenir shop. You can choose a lot of souvenirs while waiting. The views from the top are quite good. A lot of different fun stuff inside
