Sukuh Temple, Solo

4.1
#2 of 12 in Historic Sites in Solo
Soak up some local history by visiting Sukuh Temple, a 15th-century structure located on the western slope of Mount Lawu. One of the last major Hindu temples built before the Javanese conversion to Islam, the site displays less of an Indian influence than earlier places of worship. See the flat-topped pyramid, which resembles a Mayan monument dropped into the Javanese jungle, and admire the many intricate statues and carvings, many of them sexually explicit. From this temple, you can enjoy commanding views of the lush surrounding mountainsides. • So people say it is a Taboo temple but for me it was a temple to respect God Shiva in Hindu . We can learn about our culture which got influenced on architecture and culture itself. We need to protect our heritage to our generation in the future. It's nice to visit cos the air so fresh and we can see the beautiful view from the top. This temple still active for Hindu praying too.
  • I.love this place. If you like historical places or stories . It is located at the valley of Lawu mountain. So you can see the mountain clearly.. if weather permits. The shape of the temple is unique.
