Besakih Temple, Karangasem

#3 of 7 in Historic Sites in Karangasem
Admire the largest and most sacred of Bali's Hindu temples at Besakih Temple, an important place of worship and an example of Balinese architecture. Situated in an impressive mountainous landscape, the main temple presides over an attractive vista, giving opportunities for photographs of its protruding decorative steps against a captivating natural backdrop. Consider hiring a guide to discover more about the temple's history, and to find the quieter places at this very busy attraction. Be prepared for locals trying to convince you to buy something; some can be quite insistent. • I will write the same for all the major temples in Bali that I visited this year-not only on this monument I regret that I did not look at the amazing island of Bali in the time of the flower children..... Before I start writing a review, I have to write that the Balinese are amazing, nice, smiling people only until they begin to run the guide and sales activities in the temples. Then they become poisonous and greedy people without inhibitions. Arriving at the temple, they are going to get to you with Sarunan, and even if you have your own, then you for IDR 100000 will be indiscriminably forcing the one they lend themselves. After getting rid of them, you buy a fairly cheap official ticket for IDR 50000. Then comes the golden nail of the visit. A guide that stands near local policemen will stick to you. I really didn't know how to get rid of it and if it ever goes without breaking some local habit. So he goes with you for about an hour, and something unintelligible is trying to tell you. When he leaves, he pulls out his hand and requests US $30. Because I can set a fairly combat expression, so he was content with an IDR 200000 with a distorted face from rage, and only because I had no idea how the local police could react if I hadn't given him the money. One good advice. If you want to visit the temples in Bali, check to see if you can refuse these attractions, so that you don't have any abies with local police. It's a huge black spot on an otherwise amazing experience from this komlex. Make a judgement from the photos I attach.

  • Several temples gathered in one place. You have to wear the sarong and can't get in everywhere. The view with the volcano is pretty.

  • What an amazing location. Incredible views and pure Balinese beauty in the largest temple of the Island. Paying (tourist) access grants you with a ride in motorbike to the temple from the parking, saving the long slide that takes you there. A local guide will give you a Tour and explain you with some basics that you should know about this spot.
  • Besakih temple is an absolute gem and deserve your full attention. Go there with a certified guide (included in the ticket) so you won’t be asked any money by a local-dishonest-so called-guide. It is really worth it. The set of temples is amazing, peaceful, it tells a lot about the culture and beliefs of the Balinese.
