Cetho Temple, Karanganyar

#1 of 7 in Things to do in Karanganyar
Built on a mountain slope in the 15th century, Cetho Temple remains a significant landmark as it predates the influx of Islamic influences to the region. You'll see authentic Javanese architecture, sculptures, and figures from the period, which to this day experts continue to analyze. At 1,495 m (4,905 ft) above sea level, the grounds afford expansive views of the surroundings, including the nearby tea plantations. Be prepared for an exhausting climb, however: the steep slope has many steps leading up to the site. • Amazing temple. Very similar to Myan temples. Has many erotic statues. From the car park to the temple is all up hill. Must wear the traditional sarong before entering.  more »
