Learn about Iceland's strong connection to the sea at Reykjavik Maritime Museum. The permanent exhibits take you from the age of the first Nordic settlers to modern day. See how fishing has advanced from simple rowboats to the modern industry that has become the driving force behind the country's economy. Don't miss the docked Coast Guard ship, Óðinn, a veteran of the Cod Wars with the UK. Enjoy a great view of the harbor and a selection of traditional meals at the cafe. Admission to the ship and the museum are charged separately, but you can get a discount on a combination ticket. Great museum with a focus on the fishing industry in Iceland and its history. There was also a nice exhibit about a ship which sunk in the late 1600s but has been rediscovered recently, including items they found in the ship.

A fantastic museum. Contrary to most maritime museums of the world, this one focuses not on marine biology, but on ancient and modern fishery. Thus the museums nick: "fish&folk". One to two hours.
