Visit one of the country's most important religious sites and a symbol of Icelandic statehood at Domkirkjan. The cathedral serves as the seat of the Bishop of Iceland and the center of the Church of Iceland. Dating back to the late 18th century, when the city of Reykjavik was founded, the building hosts the ceremonial parliament openings and presidential inaugurations in addition to acting as an important place of worship for citizens and visitors. Listen to the organs and admire the neo-Classical architecture and neo-Baroque decorations. Walk to the altar to see the masterful silver and agate ornaments. Services are held regularly; check the website for a schedule. Arrange to visit Domkirkjan and other attractions in Reykjavik using our Reykjavik online route planner .

Pretty church with huge pipe organ that does summer concerts so during the concert you can't go into the church unless you pay for the concert. Very basic inside. Can pay to take the elevator up to the tower for city views. Be aware the bell chimes are really loud & startling up there if you're not expecting it!
Really cool place to visit in Reykjavik. My daughter had fun just bumping around on the monuments. We didn't spend alot of time here, but it's worth a look and if your're walking there's lots to see on the way. Recommended highly for lovers of cool architecture.
