Mt. Namafjall (Namaskard), Lake Myvatn

4.7
Gigantic mud craters surrounded by sulfur crystals of many different colors, bubbling mud pots, and steam pots make up the landscape of Mt. Namafjall (Namaskard). Follow a small hiking trail, which goes up to the mountain and then returns to the highway and the parking lot. The soil in the area is almost barren due to erosion and the sulfur fumes. If you get cold and tired, soak in thermal baths on the other side of the mountain. To avoid injuries and burns, stay on the track. Bear in mind that the fumes can be harmful. • The site is very easy to find, the parking is free and spacious. Then a beautiful landscape is offered to us, colors that put full view and a smell that puts full nostrils but you get used to it. There is a little hike to do to see the site above but it goes up a little. Nothing to add was just splendid!

  • Boiling mud, steam vents, an otherworldly landscape. A fascinating site, unlike any other we saw on our 6-day tour of Iceland.  more »

  • A MUST SEE! Small hiking to the top, little steep but not that hard really, hot pots on the bottom, at the top a beautiful view on the valley
  • It is beautiful out there! Take a look.
