Go to The Húsavík Whale Museum to learn about whales, their ecosystems, and Iceland's special relationship with these creatures. Starting off as a small hotel exhibit in 1997, this museum has gained in popularity and expanded into its own non-profit organization. The museum's main goal is to raise awareness of whale species and their environment through education. The site's research has received international attention and inspired a volunteer program. Start on the lower floors where you'll find marine ecosystems, especially in relation to Icelandic whales. Go on to watch a documentary about the issue of whaling. On the upper floors nine whale skeletons include a minke, humpback, and orca. If you've been on a whale watch, bring your ticket for a discount to the museum. This is a great museum and I recommend you visit. They have a lot of information, many real skeletons from whales which wanted up and died on Iceland. There is a small lounge inside with free coffee and another room playing a movie about whales. There is also a kids room for younger ones.
Pretty cool! Not a large place, but has tons of info all over the place and the whale skeletons are definitely interesting. They could keep working to make their exhibits more modern, but I definitely learned things there.
