Climb up into the head of Ruhmeshalle und Bavaria, the imposing classical bronze sand-cast statue built in the 19th century to personify the strength and glory of Bavaria. The first statue since Classical Antiquity to be made of solid cast bronze, the 87.36 metric ton (96.3 ton) monument was commissioned by Ludwig I of Bavaria to mark the period of peace after Napoleon's defeat in 1813. You'll ascend an 18.5 m (60.7 ft) circular staircase leading up to the statue's head, where you'll look out through her helmet to breathtaking vistas of the Theresienwiese and downtown Munich. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Munich holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Ruhmeshalle und Bavaria and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • This grand statue is facing the Oktoberfest venue. Not so clean though with broken glasses everywhere, we just took photos infront but too tired to climb up the stairs.  more »
  • During Oktoberfest walking through stalls and marquees we arrive at the foot of this statue that seems to observe all of Munich, it is gigantic and above all a great anointed climbing the stairs to take beautiful photos on the Theresienwiese!
