Mullersches Volksbad, Munich

4.1
#3 of 14 in Spas in Munich
Built in 1901, Mullersches Volksbad features an Art Nouveau design that makes it one of Europe's most striking swimming pool and sauna complexes. Descend the wide stairs to the two pools to experience traditional German bathing culture. Relax among the rich, Baroque decorations, including a bronze statue, ornate iron railings, elaborate clocks, and grand paintings. Be sure to visit the Roman steam bath and Finnish sauna. For even more decadence, treat yourself to a massage. Afterward, head to the Volksbad cafe for snacks and drinks. Please note that this is a nude site with coed facilities. • This is an excellent swimming pool. Longer than 25metres the main pool is cool good for swimming. There are sports swimming lanes and plenty of room for swimming lengths. There is a lions mouth...  more »
  • This is a fabulous spa in central Munich, but I'd rather just keep it on the down low so it stays as it is. Deeply relaxing and walk out feeling like a million bucks.  more »

  • Beautiful pool with amazing surroundings in a historic building. There are two pools - a 25m swimming one and a smaller (approx. 15x15m) pool for "leisure" swimmers that just want to enjoy being in the pool rather than swim laps.
  • Very pretty here and the sauna was quiet and peaceful. The sauna is different than what we call the sauna in America. Here the sauna is the actual bath house that has a hot tub, cold water, showers, steam rooms and everything else. The actual sauna itself, the room that is super hot and made of wood, is very clean and very hot. It’s also very tiny so since it is coed and nude you will get very acquainted with your neighbors. This was my first time in a coed nude bath and once I got used to it I am no convinced of the superiority of it. Leave your feelings at the door and just relax in a stress free way and don’t care what others think. Besides it’s normal here and when you are in Germany than you do it the way Germans do it and don’t complain. If you don’t like it then don’t go.
