Trip Planner:   Europe  /  Germany  /  Bavaria  /  Upper Bavaria  /  Munich  /  Isartor
Isartor stands tall as only one left of the four main medieval gates in Munich, built in 1337 to serve as a defense for the city. You can see much of the restoration performed on the gate and its central tower, bringing it back to its former glory. Don't miss the frescoes that tell the story of Emperor Louis's victorious return after the Battle of Mühldorf. Inside the gate, in a curious change of subject matter, you'll find a museum dedicated to Karl Valentin, a comedian and actor. Put Isartor on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Munich travel site .
