Feldherrnhalle, Munich

3.9
Originally constructed during the 1840s and later modified to honor the soldiers who fought in the Franco-Prussian War, the Feldherrnhalle is the site of one of interwar Germany's pivotal events: the 1923 clash between Adolf Hitler's rising Nazi following and the Bavarian government. The battle resulted in multiple deaths and Hitler's imprisonment. The ornate architecture features marble arches, majestic lion statues, and triumphant sculptures depicting legendary figures. Statues dedicated to Bavaria's own showcase of famous generals and leaders are spread throughout the 20 m (65.6-ft) structure. • Glad I finally got to see this historic place. It was setting of gatherings durin World War Two. It is near theatrekirke and Koenig plate.  more »
  • ... boring building at the end of Theatiner.Straße directly at Odeonsplatz; standing in a temple-like building are the statues of several long-dead generals and generals, and that was it; nothing special to see and significantly smaller than expected

  • Lovely square to visit. I enjoyed sitting on the steps here after walking through the old town. The yellow church near by is also beautiful!
  • A good landmark place to visit. The whole area is beautiful. Make sure you read about the place before you get there.
