Andechs Monastery, Andechs

#2 of 46 in Breweries & Distilleries in Bavaria
Must see · Brewery · Food & Drink
Discover the intersection of fine Baroque architecture and the art of brewing beer at the idyllic Andechs Monastery. Perched atop a hill overlooking Ammer lake, the monastery features an impressive 18th century church. This is the oldest pilgrimage site in Bavaria, as well as a fully functioning brewery. You can take a brewery tour to learn about the monks' brewing tradition. You'll be able to taste the seven varieties of local beer, then have a traditional Bavarian lunch at the onsite restaurant. Wander the grounds to take in the spectacular views of the countryside. Put Andechs Monastery and other Andechs attractions into our Andechs online attractions planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • My friend took me to Andechs by walking through the lovely trail with the view of Ammersee along the way. Absolutely love the Schweinhaxel and the dark beer for lunch. A must visit place in Bavaria.  more »

  • It's a very nice place with very nice walks you can easily reach by foot from the S-train or by car and bus. There's a very nice, though usually also very crowded, restaurant/beer garden/café at the monastery, there's a nice restaurant just outside, a playground and even a miniature golf course by the parking lot. It's also a classic one-day tour for your Munich visitors.
  • Just love this place. Pork knuckle is the best I've had in all Bavaria and I've had a lot. Also the bock beer is spot on! Classic old world feel with the monastery and church. Go at the weekend and it's packed but that, for me, adds to the charm....shared tables and lots of positive energym
