Musee D-Day Omaha, Vierville-sur-Mer

#17 of 65 in Museums in Calvados
Musee D-Day Omaha is primarily the work of an enthusiast by the name of Michel Brissard. After years of research, Michel decided to exhibit his collection, paying tribute to the soldiers who died in the Battle of Normandy. Located in a period building (an American hospital during the landings), the museum houses a private collection composed of rare objects (such as an Enigma machine, Higgins boat, and German equipment), which have remained in their original state and illustrate technological advances in wartime. • Does not pay mines from the outside but very friendly welcome and above all a private collection of extraordinary objects! Absolutely must be done if you pass through Omaha Beach, militaria lovers will enjoy it! The snack outside is great too. Dogs are allowed and the entrance fee is very affordable given the quality of this museum!

  • It is cluttered and it isn't the best way to present things of historical value BUT I appreciate that they do open their private collection to the public. The cashier said only 50% was visible everything including the "hanger" was a medical tent from the beach, moved up to where it stands. I enjoyed the weapons on hand and many other items that you don't normally see like small medical devices, etc. Go look around and support them so they can be able in the future share more of this important history with all of us. Also, the burgers in the double decker bus (the Ambush) are amazing!

  • Private museum. Very nice, a lot of real objects from WWII, very sociable staff. They say they have one of the 4 ENIGMAs on the territory of France that I have also seen
  • Excellent collection of a variety of German and American war memerbial. Plus information about the area before the war. Loved it.
