#3 of 117 in Museums in Ecuador
Immerse yourself in a creative and spiritual journey with a visit to La Capilla Del Hombre, a museum housed in an Inca-inspired chapel. Established by artist and philanthropist Oswaldo Guayasamin, the museum serves as a tribute to humankind, reflecting on suffering and violence but ultimately inspiring hope for a better future. Tragically, Guayasamin died before the opening of his masterpiece, but his spirit lives on in the floor-to-ceiling paintings lining the museum's walls. Take a guided tour in English, Spanish, or French, included in your ticket price. • I have always liked Guayasamin but was unaware of this magnificent museum of high architectural value and with so many of his great works. The guides give a very good background explanation of each pi...  more »
  • The illustrious Ecuadoran artist left a vast and important work that can be seen in the beautiful space that houses the Guayasamin Foundation and which has three distinct parts: the museum, the House and a small archaeological site. The museum building is beautiful, as is its valuable collection. The house, where the artist kept an atelier, is also quite interesting, because it allows to know some of the personal style of Guayasamin, considering that he participated in the project himself. The location is just a short distance from the city centre. There is free parking in front of the entrance to the foundation. The ticket costs $8.

  • This is a 2 part museum that should not be missed. The artist home is very very interesting and we feel honoured to be able to tour in his home as well as to see his workshop and workspace. The exhibition gallery is a pleasant visit after learning more about the artist, his life and then seeing his work in the end make this visit a must do. It also has a beautiful garden.
  • The museum has two sections: 1) the museum and 2) the house and studio. The museum has a broad selection of works and the display is stunning. High ceilings in some halls allow full appreciation of the towering works. The gift shop is in this building. The house keeps you in a group for the tour. Art in the house is smaller in scale but impressive. The studio was a dramatic work space. There is also a small outdoor sculpture garden within the grounds of the house. Awesome experience. Highly recommend.
