Despite its small size, The Little Mermaid serves as one of the city's major symbols. Based on the well-known fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, this unimposing bronze mermaid is the work of sculptor Edvard Eriksen. Commissioned by Danish beer baron Carl Jacobsen in 1909, the artist modeled the mermaid's face after ballerina Ellen Price and the body after his wife's. The statue miraculously survived the destructive forces of World War II undamaged, becoming a kind of city mascot over the years. Di certo chi viene a Copenaghen lo fa anche per vedere lei. Sinceramente a me è piaciuto molto andarci. Leggo molte recensioni negative, ma è una statua ed è a grandezza umana quindi cosa aspettarsi d... more »
Of course those who come to Copenhagen do so to see you too. Honestly, I loved going there. I read a lot of negative reviews, but it's a statue and it's human-sized so what to expect of so epochal. From my point of view she's very nice and I recommendView original -
The statue was nice, but very small, probably smaller than life-size, and rather insignificant. I'm puzzled as to why this is a 'must-see' as there are so many beautiful statues in the city, and many ... more »

We got here by bike, it is easy to find bike roads that goes most of the way here. Rental bikes are a good way to get around Copenhagen The statue itself is quite small so it gets very crowded with tourists, but the area is great and there are many other things to see and do around here too. There was some coffee and souvenir shops right next to it, also free bathrooms just a little walk away.

It's a glorified statue of the little girl. The park is pretty to walk around but there are absolutely too many people at the statue. One of the bus guides said today there weren't many, but there were still a lot. Would not recommend to stop at the statue if you get anxiety in crowds, but the entire park is still beautiful to walk around.
