Our Saviour's Church, Copenhagen

4.5
See the city from the top of Our Saviour's Church, built of red and yellow bricks in the Dutch Baroque style. Although builders completed work on the church in 1695, it took nearly six more decades to finish its famous corkscrew spire, which was designed by architect Lauritz de Thurah. According to urban legend, the architect jumped to his death from the top of his creation when he realized it twisted in the counterclockwise direction. The spire reaches a height of 90 m (295 ft) and features an external staircase, which you can climb for a suggested fee. Be sure to explore the interior of the church, noted for housing an altarpiece depicting Jesus and two angels, considered the masterpiece of artist Nicodemus Tessin. • That's something special with the tower ascent outside. In addition, the tower also looks very nice. I just climbed the 250 steps inside. This is stimulating but rewarding. Unfortunately, it is sometimes very tight when other visitors meet. There aren't many places where you can dodge each other. The view is good. You can go 150 steps further, but I belong to the type of fear bunnies and have left it to not be in the way of others.

  • A must on a clear crisp sunny day in Copenhagen if you can cope with the steep stairs/ladders and tight spaces. Fabulous views from the top. Breathtaking in more ways than one!  more »

  • I climbed the tower of this church. It was an awesome experience. It provides great panoramic view of the city. Has many interesting artifacts inside while climbing and is a great spot for photography of course. If you go during the week the line to get admitted is usually not that long. Highly recommend to everyone!
  • This church is pretty special. Plays beautiful bells music with the carillon every day, which you should stick around for if you're nearby at a playtime (I was there at 5pm for that) Also you can climb the stairs, which go all the way to the top, wrapping around the outside of the spire. This is the place to get an amazing aerial view of København. Put it on your to do list!
