Praised as “the gallery of landscape,” Golden Whip Brook winds across valleys, between steep cliffs, and around grotesque mountain peaks, offering many scenic spots along the way. The brook got its name because it flows past a 350 m (1,148 ft) tall rock, which looks like a “bian” (Chinese for whip). Legend has it that the first emperor of the Qin dynasty, on one of his journeys to the sea, left his weapon here, which turned into a stone peak. Another rock standing next to it resembles a flying hawk, which is said to be the guardian of the whip. Walk along scenic pathways rimmed with trees and flowers, and keep your eyes peeled for the spot where the brook runs through four stone gates.
