Monte Forte (Fortaleza do Monte), part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Historic Centre of Macau, is a 17th-century structure initially built to protect locals from pirates. Since then, the attraction has also been a residence of the Governors of Macau, a weather observatory, and now houses the Macau Museum. Be sure to visit the top of the fort, which rewards you with 360-degree views of Macau's landscape. Also find the giant steel gun and ancient pagodas, once the sites of Society of Jesus. I went up here and was very impressed by the old fort. It is really old and nice. The views of the city are good and especially during sunset visit. A must in Macau! more »

Great vantage point of the city as well as the ruins of St-Paul. Admission is free and it’s a whole lot less crowded than the steps in front of the ruins. Great if you don’t mind going up a few stairs. This is where you will find the Macau Museum as well.

Situated at the top of a moderate-sized hill, the fort presents a good, but not excellent, view of Macau. There is also a museum at the top but I did not have time to visit. Just make sure you stay off the outer walls of the fort for safety, there are also guards that will blow whistles at you if you decides to take the risk.
