Train Cemetery, Uyuni

#1 of 46 in Museums in Bolivia
Probably one of the last things you'd expect to see at an altitude of 3,656 m (11,995 ft) on the edge of the desert, Train Cemetery presents a vast collection of historical trains and locomotives. The trains stand as a monument to Uyuni's past as a prosperous mining town. After the collapse of the industry in the 1940s, the trains were simply abandoned on the edge of town, left to the mercy of scavengers and the winds blowing from the nearby salt flat. You can wander freely around the site and take pictures, but if you want to climb the trains, be careful of the sharp, rusty edges. • Emmm, I didn’t get this idea of having a stop there for like a 40 minutes. But to clime this old cars could be Interesting for a while. To take some shoots. I m not a fin of old rusty trains  more »
  • This is the first stop on the route to Salar Uyuni. Old and abandoned iron that nobody cares about it.  more »
  • Nice old train cars. If you're on a tour in Uyuni desert, better not spend too much time here to enjoy more time in the salt flat. It's almost impossible to take picture with nobody on it because the place is quite crowded
  • A lot of old locomotives in various states of conservation...Too many people in the morning since all tour starts at 10:30 and all are going to visit the cemetery as theirs first stop.... Impossible to make a photo without having tourists in the field...Much better to go by yourself in the afternoon with a taxi or by walking.. It's true Uyuni is at 3700m but it is flat and not so far...
