Ruby's Music Room Reviews
Not a great experience here. IMO, the best piano bar in Melbourne is vodka temple - 160 Lygon St, Carlton more »
Went to a classical performance at Ruby's which was fantastic, especially with the grand piano. However, the bar was overcrowded with the tables too close together and the alcohol was way overpriced.... more »
Couldn't agree more with the negative reviews here. And what a shame. It has all the elements to be a cool place to relax, have a quiet drink and listen to some good music. But it isn't. There is no relaxed vibe that you would expect of a place like this. The owners are way too uptight and have no idea what a real jazz club should be like. I took a group of friends to this place to see some live music expecting a chilled out relaxing night. We checked out the website which clearly states that it serves dinner Monday to Sunday 6pm-11pm. We arrived with empty stomachs but looking forward to sampling the food, enjoying a glass of wine and the music. On this SATURDAY night, the ridiculous little man behind the bar (the owner) said: "I don't have time to make any food." And he didn't seem sorry about it at all. Actually, the opposite. So we bought a glass of wine, stayed an hour and left. Absolutely pathetic.
I don't get the weirdos who don't like this place. I had a great time there! Frankly, I didn't come there to eat, I came to hear some really fantastic music (Anna Powell and Jono) and have a drink. The bar is good, the owner is a nice guy, he won't pamper you but he obviously loves what he does. It was our first time there and we'll definitely come again. As I can see on the website, they offer quite a variety of performances.
