Bourke Street is one of the main streets of Melbourne's Central Business District (CBD) and a core feature of the Hoddle Grid. It was traditionally the entertainment hub of inner-city Melbourne, and is now also a popular tourist destination and tram thoroughfare.During the Marvellous Melbourne era, Bourke Street was the location of many of the city's theatres and cinemas. Today it continues as a major retail shopping precinct with the Bourke Street Mall running between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets, numerous offices to the west end and restaurants to the east. Bourke Street's liveliness and activity has often been contrasted with the sobering formality of nearby Collins Street. For this reason, "Busier than Bourke Street" is a popular colloquialism denoting a crowded or busy environment.Bourke Street is named for Sir Richard Bourke, the Governor of New South Wales in 1837 during the drafting of the Hoddle Grid.GeographyBourke Street runs roughly from east to west and bisects the city centre along its long axis. Bourke Street runs parallel between Little Collins street to the south and Little Bourke street to the north.Take a look at our Melbourne trip itinerary site to schedule your visit to Bourke Street Mall and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

Bourke Street Mall Reviews
more »Across the Southern Cross station, run through Chinatown from Victoria Harbour to The Parliament House on Bourke Street. If it is hard to walk on the slope, the tram of 86th and 96th passes (free if it is a get on and off in Bourke Street), so it gets off if there is a shop to be worried about when shopping, and it is convenient. It's like going to Ginza from Tokyo Station, but there are few restaurants and most of the shops are closed at night, so I feel lonely.
Grande area di shopping con negozi ed un centro commerciale Qui puoi trovare veramente di tutto, nonché sostare per ristorazione more »Large shopping area with shops and a shopping mall Here you can really find everything, as well as stop for catering
Not the longest or even the most attractive mall in Australia, but it still offers a lively atmosphere, including the cream of Melbourne's street performers, and Myer's periodic window displays. Major department stores including Myer and David Jones; Melbourne's GPO (now a shopping centre and Heritage-listed example of Victorian architecture); fashion outlets; a tourist information booth; and tram stops. Watch for trams when crossing.
This is always a great place to visit no matter what your reason, you may be a tourist going for a walk throughout the city or you may be a local in need of something from the many shops. The outdoor mall is easily accessible via public transport or walking. There are many different types of shops including cafes and restaurants.
