#19 of 19 in Parks in Darwin
Lameroo Beach is a small beach located off the Esplanade in central Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia. It was the location of the town's historic baths between 1922 and 1974. The name for Lameroo Beach comes from a corrupted interpretation of the nearby Aboriginal site Damoe-Ra, which means "eye" or "spring" in Larrakia.

  • We just wanted a short walk around town. This beach was fine for exploring if you like looking for small crabs. It's not a swimming beach, and it is rocky and muddy. Probably not what most people.....  more »

  • Other than the Waterfront District, Darwin City doesn't have easily accessible beach areas. However, should you be there at very low tide, the Lameroo Beach area is uncovered! I was there on such an occasion and was delighted to discover actual sand (well...rock and mud really!) You take the path down to the little viewing platform, then a set of old dilapidated concrete stairs onto the beach. There's maybe 150-200 metres of walking space. Good views out to the offshore oil platform, plenty of interesting debris to ponder over. It's nothing special, but it is a little interesting and you don't get to see it all the time. Have a look!
